overtime. the costs of giving protection to the city's top officials. >> and despite budget deficits, those costs are going up. >> many large jurisdictions offer no such benefit to top officials, but despite a declining population and ever- growing budget pressure, the city not only keeps executive protection in place. it allows it to grow. >> good morning. >> baltimore mayor stephanie rawlings-blake has quite the on to rosh. she arrives in a city suv. -- has quite the entourage. she is protected by city police officers whose sole duty is to provide executive protection. it all comes at a cost. for the last year, over time alone was $103,750. substantially higher than the

cost for fiscal year 2011. one big reason? the unit got bigger. it grew from three officers to seven officers. the mayor's security troubles with her out of time. that added another $7,700 the last fiscal year. take that plus the overtime costs and the minimum salaries -- the overall cost is enough to cover the starting salaries of 10 police officers. executive protection is also provided to the police commissioner, even though the commissioner carries a drug. two officers made $36,000 in overtime last year and another city official also gets over time -- its executive protection. he says his executive protection officers to other duties. but today we saw them driving

devastating fire in northeast baltimore. four of the victims are aged one, 2, 4, and 7. >> according to the source, investigators are leaning towards clothes to close to a furnace in the basement as a possible cause. this amateur video reveals the intensity of the fire. investigators believe it may have started because clothes were too close to the furnace in the basement. it claimed the lives of four children and one adult. 19-year-old shade was able to save the heard two-month old by throwing him out of a window peeping she jumped out of the same when the. she did not want to talk on camera, understandably.

the two children on the right is -- what are hers. son paris and-old so did his 2-year-old sister. is -- her father managed to jump from a window, but her mother nancy worrell did not. nancy is the primary caregiver. family members say a 7-year-old also perished in the fire. the victims were found on the second floor in the back bedroom. >> there was smoke, fire. you could see the fire coming out of the window peeping the fire department was trying to get it out the best they can, but it was rolling. >> two firefighters got hurt

fighting the inferno. 1 fell through the basement and landed on top of another firefighter. >> my heart goes out to those who lost loved ones today in the early morning fires. our prayers go out to the firefighters and their families as well. >> the two firefighters were taken to the bayview burn center with non-life threatening injuries. meanwhile, residents are worried this is another case of arson. there have been two cases in this community recently. however there is no evidence to suggest that yet. >> are breaking story, david. two more cases of lung will meningitis reported in maryland. -- fungal meningitis reported in maryland. the contagion is linked to steroid injections.
